Ethnic New Year Festivals 2025
Throughout North Thailand, there are scores of ethnic hill tribe villages in the mountains.
Scattered randomly high on many mountains, it often takes an effort to get them.
One of the best areas with a concentrated mix of diverse hill tribes is the Thoed Thai—Mae Fah Luang area.
The area is home to the following hill tribes: Shan, Akha, Lahu, Lisu, Hmong, Karen, and Mien. On the new moon lunar cycle in December, the Akha, Ahu, and Hmong will all be celebrating the new year in relatively close proximity to each other.
It will provide a brilliant opportunity to see some stunning celebrations and ethnic fold dancing in full costume.
