Khun Yuam is both a district (Amphoe) and a town (Amphur) within Mae Hong Son Province, northern Thailand. Khun Yuam is well worth a visit during the month of November, when the Bua Thong flowers are in full bloom on the mountain sides.

Khun Yuam Cultural Centre / Museum
On Highway 108 opposite Muay Tor temple. Has displays of Shan / Tai Yai and hill tribes arts and handicrafts. Museum houses artifacts from the period of occupation by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War ll. There are a lot of military relics, and many old photographs. More info
Muay Tor Temple
On Highway 108 opposite Khun Yuam Local Cultural Centre. The temple has a Shan-style pagoda encircled by other pagodas. The top of the pagoda is decorated with metal-tiered umbrella surrounded by bells, and is considered to be one of the region’s most beautiful pagodas.
Tor Pae Temple
Located at Baan Taw Pae (Mae Ngao sub district) 7 km. away from Khun Yuam market.
Sunflower Festival – Doi Mae U Khor

During November, the wild Mexican sunflowers (Bua Thong) bloom in vivid yellow across Doi Mae U-Khor. The location is approx 26 kilometers from the town of Khun Yuam, on Highway No. 1263. The annual flowering draws hordes of visitors to Khun Yuam district.

un Yuam has a small but interesting museum, with 1300+ items of military equipment and photographs from World War 2. Imperial Japanese Army troops were stationed there during construction of a highway intended to cross Burma to India.
