Phayao is one of those places where on the surface, there’s not much happening… But, there’s much more than the lake and its mountain backdrop, and the waterfront restaurants. Hidden from view, and poorly promoted, there’s far more to see and do than first appearances suggest.
There are some lovely temples, an interesting museum, a Sunday Night Bazaar, good restaurants, comfortable but modestly priced accommodation, a couple of good pubs & discos…
In the evenings, and weekends, these concrete waterfront walkways are alive with skateboards, aerobics dance classes, food vendors and strollers…
A favourite weekend destination for resident and ex-pat motorcyclists, Phayao is a true provincial gem.
