Mae Wang Loop

165.2 kms return. All asphalt.

Routes 108 – 1013 – 1269 / 1096 – 108 / 107.

A gem of a rider’s loop, being “nicer” and longer loop than the Samoeng loop, the Mae Wang loop is now ALL  asphalt / concrete.

The Mae Wang loop really starts from Sanpathong, 18 kms S-W of Chiang Mai, & goes up the beautiful Mae Wang river valley, then goes east to Bo Kaew & Samoeng, then back into Chiang Mai via either route 1096 & 107 Mae Rim or route 1269 & 108 past the airport.

The Mae Wang loop has smaller elephant camps than in the Mae Sa valley, but it also has bamboo rafting, plus better scenery and more hill tribe villages than on the Samoeng loop. You can easily spend all day on the Mae Wang Loop, the scenery, villages and photo opportunities are so great.
